We can use these expressions:
path = ${foo%/*}
To get: /tmp/my.dir (like dirname) ... g to traverse over every directory listed in your path -- perhaps to verify that everything listed there... mmand that will echo each directory named on your path on it's own line:
p=$PATH until [ $p = $d ]; do
