Mozilla/Opera Horizontal Scrolling

To turn on touchpad horizontal scrolling in easy mode: Settings tab > Touchpad > Scrolling tab > Enable horizontal scrolling

Unfortunately, if you configure your Eee PC to do horizontal scrolling via the touchpad, attempting to use this feature in Mozilla Firefox (the Eee web browser)and Opera will cause the browser to move backwards or forwards in the history instead of scrolling.

To fix it in Mozilla Firefox:

 1.
    Open the web browser
 2.
Type “about:config” in the address bar
 3.
In the “Filter” box at the top, type “horizscroll.withnokey” The window below should now show only 3 pereferences.
 4.
The first preference is “mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.action”. Double-click on this, and when it asks for a value enter: 0 (Default: 2)
 5.
The next preference is “mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.numlines”. Double-click on this, and then enter: 1 (Default: -1)
 6.
The last preference is “mousewheel.horizscroll.withnokey.sysnumlines”. This one can only have the values true or false, so just double-click it until it changes to “true”. (Default: false)

After you do this, all 3 lines should be shown in bold text instead of normal text, showing that you have changed them from their default values.

To fix it in Opera:

 1.
    Open up a terminal(ctrl+alt+t)
 2.
Navigate to the Opera ini folder(cd /usr/share/opera/ini/)
 3.
Open the standard_mouse.ini in a text editor as sudo user(sudo nano standard_mouse.ini)
 4.
Locate the following two lines: Button6 = Back Button7 = Forward
 5.
Comment them out by adding a ; in front of them so they look like this: ;Button6 = Back ;Button7 = Forward
 6.
    Save the file(ctrl+o in nano)
 7.
Restart Opera if it is open

If things scroll too quickly or too slowly, go back to the touchpad control panel. You'll be able to set the horizontal scrolling speed.
